Looking for an early springtime opportunity to relax with colleagues from the bench and bar while enjoying a two hour open bar and mouth-watering party fare? Then Cocktails & Conversation fits the bill!

Scheduled for 6-8 pm, Thursday, May 2nd at Caffé Aldo Lamberti on Route 70 East in Cherry Hill, this “Members Only” event provides a terrific opportunity to mix and mingle with colleagues and Camden County judges of the Superior, US District, Bankruptcy and Workers’ Compensation Courts, in a relaxed atmosphere. And, if last year’s Cocktails & Conversation was any indication, we’ll have another packed house!

Tickets are only $55 ($50 for lawyers admitted less than 5 years), with advance reservations requested.

One of the cornerstones of this year has been the Board of Trustees focus on taking a serious look at our association and planning our collective vision for the future by creating a strategic plan for the Camden County Bar Association. So we began a process earlier this year, where the Board commissioned a study in conjunction with the ABA section for Bar Services to do two things. First was to conduct a membership survey that you may have seen and participated in last fall. Subsequently we held an all day planning session with the Board to work with a facilitator from the ABA to create the frame work for our strategic plan. It was a very productive day that allowed for a significant amount of both creativity and collective brainstorming. Since that day, the strategic planning committee of the Board Chaired by Lou Moffa went to work to put all of the raw hard work together and formulate it all into a working document for the Board. Over the next several entries I will be taking you through the specifics of our strategic plan and providing some specifics so that you, the members who we serve can gain a better understanding of the Board of Trustees and our focus for the next few years.
Of course, the reason behind doing a strategic plan may be obvious, to be able to chart our path for the next five years. While the plan is a living document, it does provide guidance and bench marks to allow the Board to monitor itself and the progress of the association over time so we can continue to improve our organization.
This process began with our collective Vision. What is that vision you may ask? Well, here is what we came up with: As a champion of professionalism, service and diversity, the Camden County Bar Association makes a positive difference in the lives of its members, the community and the profession.

There is great debate as to whose decision will ultimately determine the course of events for Rutgers-Camden, but under the stature establishing Rutgers as the State University of New Jersey, it is expressly declared that Rutgers is to be self-governing under the direction of the two governing boards, and not subject to partisanship.

From the Office of the President – Camden County Bar Association – Lou Lessig

March 19, 2012
TO: All Bar Members
I am pleased to inform you of a special exhibit that the Camden County Bar Association, (CCBA), in cooperation with the German Federal Bar and the American Bar Association, is bringing to the Delaware Valley – Lawyers Without Rights, Jewish Lawyers in Germany, under the Third Reich – which tells the story of several lawyers who practiced in Germany prior to World War II and what happened to these defenders of justice. It is with great pride that the CCBA brings this exhibit to Camden County for the benefit of our Association, members of the bench, lawyers throughout the region and the Community at large. We hope that this self-guided exhibit will provide a framework for consideration
of what it means to live in a free democratic nation, where justice is defended for all citizens, where everyone has a say in our future and where lawyers and judges respectively advocate and defend our Constitution on a daily basis.
Independent of religious affiliation, the exhibit is a moving opportunity to see what happened even to lawyers during this dark period in world history. It is a story that is not religious in nature, but in fact is about humanity and why pursuing justice is so quintessential to being a lawyer in the United States. This letter will serve as your invitation to join us for the formal opening reception from 6-8 pm, May 8, at the William G. Rohrer Campus of Camden County College in Cherry Hill, and experience the power of this moving exhibit. Click for a reservation flyer with specific details, and a mail-in reservation form, and feel free to invite family, friends and colleagues to join you. If you cannot make it on May 8, the exhibit will be available for viewing on your own until May 17. In addition to our opening event, the Association is also welcoming school groups and religious organizations who would like to schedule times to come and experience the exhibit. If you know of an organization or school that may be interested, please have them contact the Camden County Bar Association offices directly and they will be happy to set it up. As part of our mission to provide legal education programming for the residents of Camden County, narrators will be available at set times to explain the exhibit prior to taking the tour. On behalf of the Camden County Bar Association and the Lawyers Without Rights planning committee I want to take this opportunity to encourage you to experience this exhibit and gain a better understanding of what it was like to be a lawyer without rights.

Sincerely,
Louis R. Lessig
President

Additionally, the Project would provide interested attorneys with mentoring and training in the relevant area of law. Attorneys will have access to all of the Project’s legal reference and training materials. Attorneys will have the opportunity to work with students, and request their assistance if desired. Meetings with clients can take place at the location of the attorneys choosing, and the United States Office of Probation has agreed to make space available to meet with clients in their office located in the Federal Court House in downtown Camden.

Further, participation may qualify as an exemption to New Jersey’s pro bono requirements under Madden, as participation in other law school projects already provides a recognized alternative to Madden assignments. The law school will be seeking guidance and clarification on this issue.

If you are interested in participating in the Project or have any additional questions please don’t hesitate to contact the Project’s Managing Attorney, Todd A. evening of networking, camaraderie, and just plain fun at the Camden County Bar Foundation’s popular “Fall
Frolic” hosted by Dawn Mourtos and the Coastline in Cherry Hill. The Foundation thanks
all who supported the event and the good that it will do for the underprivileged kids of
Camden, especially the Coastline for generously donating the bar and buffet. When all was
said and done, proceeds totaled more than $3,000 to purchase toys for the Public Benefits
Committee’s “Children’s Breakfast & Christmas Party” at the Coastline on December 3rd.
